Sexual Conflict in Nonhuman Primates
نویسنده
چکیده
Locked together by their need for partners in sexual reproduction, the sexes undergo an antagonistic dance to the music of time.. . .the 'evolutionary dance' that has been used as a metaphor to describe the process of sexually antagonistic coadaptation may be better regarded not simply as a couple moving across a dance floor, but as a couple who leave a trail of destruction that they must negotiate as they move around.

Conflict and Bonding Between the Sexes
The derivation of human universals from nonhuman data is complicated by the immense diversity of patterns exemplified by both human and nonhuman primates. One approach is to elucidate processes that may operate universally, though the particular phenotypic patterns that result may differ, depending upon the distinctive features of species biology. Below, I argue that sexual conflict and its cor...
متن کاملMonitoring Demands for Executive Control: Shared Functions between Human and Nonhuman Primates
Fifteen years ago, an influential model proposed that the human dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) detects conflict and induces adaptive control of behavior. Over the years support for this model has been mixed, in particular due to divergent findings in human versus nonhuman primates. We here review recent findings that suggest greater commonalities across species. These include equivalen...
متن کاملNonhuman Primates Homosexual Behavior: A Critical Review of Literature
This paper provides a critical review of the literature on nonhuman primates sexual behavior. Reproduction and sexual behavior are of crucial importance in the biological and social sciences. Therefore, homosexual behavior presents a major challenge for those who hold that Darwinism is the great general theory to be applied with equal success in biology as well in social sciences. The same-sex ...
متن کاملMasturbation ( nonhuman primates )
Male and female nonhuman primates from all living major radiations are known to performautosexual behaviors (masturbation) implying that masturbation is a facet of our own hominidancestor's sexual repertoire. At a proximate level masturbation satisfies sexual desires leadingto a hormonal state of relaxation and reduced aggression in both sexes. This might be ofimportance abo...
متن کاملBook Review Sexual Coercion in Primates and Humans: An Evolutionary Perspective on Male Aggression
Research on sexual coercion from an evolutionary perspective has been given considerable attention in both the human and nonhuman literatures. Sexual Coercion in Primates and Humans: An Evolutionary Perspective on Male Aggression Against Females represents the first synthesis on primates, though reviews on sexual coercion in a wider variety of species have been published elsewhere (e.g., Lalumi...
